Just like Gene & Roy...

Charlie's been working on his riding skills a lot lately. He can't get on or off of his rocking horse on his own but he sure goes to town when he's on! I love watching him--It really cracks me up. This was my rocking horse when I was little. The ears and tail fell off somewhere along the way but he's still very trail-worthy! We used to have races across the living room on our rocking horses. If you rock hard enough you can scoot the horse across the carpet. I can't wait to teach Charlie! Until a few months ago I thought the story was that my grandfather, a woodworker, had made the horse and it's matching brother for my sister and me. That story was ruined when Andy finally realized that he had the exact same rocking horse when he was a kid. What?! So I asked my mom and she said that she actually bought the rocking horses from a guy selling them on the side of the road (at least I think that's what she said). How did I get that story so wrong? So, take a close look. Did anyone else have this rocking horse when you were a kid?

I'm positive that we were told those horses were made for us by Grandpa! What's up with that?!

Sorry Amy, but your mom really did buy them from a man at a craft fair or something.

Hi Amy, Sorry you and April were confused. There was a man and his wife who were snowbirds. Every winter they came from someplace up north and stayed in a travel trailer on the road that took us to the main road where Bill and Misti would catch the bus. I would always admire the horses he made. After you and April were born my Grandfather Seamands sent me $50.00. I could have used that money for other things, but the horses were what I wanted, so I bought them. I had them in the living room the whole time you were growing up and picturing you two riding them. I would just sit back and close my eyes and picture two little girls riding across the plain with their hair blowing in the wind. I think why you thought that my Dad had made them is because I used to tell you that the money came from your Great Grandfather was how I was able to buy them. Sorry you thought otherwise, but in a way they are from your Great Grandfather Seamands.

Here is the poem I wrote about the horses when you were infants.

A Noble Steed

What a noble steed you are
Galloping daily to lands afar
Through the valleys
Over the hills
Along narrow paths
In flower-covered fields.

The wind blows
Through my tousled hair
As I remain unaware,
The fact that my fine noble steed
Is only a rocking horse
Yet of the finest breed.

I love that sweet cowboy. He is so cute. I only had stick horses so i have no comment on the rocking horse.

Mitch had this same horse. In fact, I think it is in the attic.

Hey Amy - that's too funny b/c Elijah has a horse almost identical to that one, and my grandfather told me himself that he made it. He better not be lying to me!! The pics at the aquarium are beautiful - what a cute kid you have!
