I used to think about Memorial Day as just another day off from work, and since Andy actually gets it off this year it's even better. This year I've got more on my mind though. As I get older, and especially now that I'm a wife and mother, I appreciate the true meaning of Memorial Day. It's a time to remember--remember those lost to and impacted by military service.
This Memorial Day I'm especially mindful of the sacrifices that my dad and family made for a calling. My dad served two tours of duty in Vietnam. With a young wife and new baby boy at home, my dad braved some of the fiercest fighting of the war for the sake of duty. It wasn't necessarily his choice but he faced it with bravery and courage. He received a bronze star for his actions in a jungle that most of us will never see, but I hope that a medal is nothing in comparison to the heartfelt thanks from his fellow Americans. Regardless of how I feel about the merit of past, present or future wars, I am always thankful for the men and women who risk their lives for the sake of my freedom and that of others.
I hope that as many of us enjoy time off and time with family this Memorial Day we take time to remember the true meaning. Remember not only those who lost their lives during service, but those who served and those who currently serve.
My dad (Chuck Forest) never misses reading my posts. If you want to take this opportunity to say "thank you" to him and others you can do so in a comment to this post. He'll see it and appreciate it.
Thank you, Dad. I love you and I'm proud of you.

Thank you, Chuck for your service and sacrifice that you made for us and our country. Thank you, for being a GREAT Brother! Remember our dad also for his many years of service.
In addition to all the other hats you wear, writing is certainly one of your talents. Have I told you how glad I am there were two seats side by side in that first Bible class at ACU? Thank you, Chuck, and Larry for your service!
