I'm the type of person who enjoys shopping by myself, eating by myself, watching a movie by myself -- in other words, I like my alone time. I think it stems from growing up in a house with seven people. The only way I ever got time to myself was when I faked being sick just to stay home while everyone else went to work and school.
These days I don't get too much alone time. I'm very blessed to have a husband that understands the value of giving this stay-at-home mom time off by paying for Charlie to go to preschool two days a week. That, plus a minor dose of meds, keeps me sane most of the time. So far today has been one of those days when Charlie can't control the urge to talk and mess non-stop. Everything is life & death and he feels the need to follow me everywhere and narrate my every move. Now he's asleep and I pray that it's a long-nap day!
Recently I've had to talk with Charlie about private parts and keeping his hands to himself. For some reason he's become fascinated with my chest and says he wants to pat it. Ummm...no. So far I've convinced him to use the term "private parts" instead of "boobas" (thanks for teaching him that one, Mel!) but he won't stop talking about them. This morning as I was taking a shower he flung open the curtain (because he's incapable of ever giving me privacy) and we had this dialogue:
Charlie: Momma, I see your boobas.
Me: Charlie, what did I say about using that word?
Charlie: Oh...I see your private parts.
Me: Yes, I know. I'm taking a shower. Please close the curtain and go play in your room.
Charlie: No. I want to touch your private parts.
Me: Absolutely not. Only mommy touches them.
Charlie: Mommy, I love your private parts.
Me: Uhhh...(not feeling that "thank you" really fits here) Charlie, let's not talk about mommy's private parts anymore.
Charlie: But mommy...
UGH!! And he's only three. I'm all for calling body parts what they are and explaining how things really happen but my three-year-old is incapable of understanding that it's not appropriate to blab about it all over town. I dread the day when I get called into his preschool because he's telling everyone that he loves Mommy's private parts. How will I ever get the courage to produce another little human when I'm so confused by this one?!
Now for your viewing pleasure...Charlie singing his current favorite song Chasing Pavements by Adele. At least the kid has good taste in music!
And this is a pretty accurate depiction of my days with Charlie...

I don't even know what to say. Does I'm so sorry cut it?
AWWW..the joys of having a 3 year old:)!
Wow, I just can't wait until Lincoln turns 3... :) That video clip is pretty accurate in my life as well!
First of all, I did NOT teach him that! The first day I got there, he was laying on me and started touching my chest. I said, "Charlie, please don't touch my boobs." Then he said, "I want to give you a boob hug." THAT is how it went down! Now instead of "boob hug" he says "booba." I didn't do it.
Second of all, the conversation made me laugh so hard I cried.
soooo awkward. Can't your pediatric-trained hubby work on this one? Of course, you can't blame the kid. You are pretty nicely stacked Bowman!
Amen sister on the alone time . . . that is why I make myself stay up so late after Emily goes to bed because it is the only time during the day to myself.
I am laughing so hard right now.
Thank you, once again, for a full out chuckle on my couch tonight! I really rarely laugh as hard as I do when I read your blog....Charlie is just the absolute best. Thank you for the fab shower commentary~ you have so many great stories to tell him when he grows up. Hugs to you all! KJS
Hi Amy! I don't know if you follow this blog, http://www.mycharmingkids.net/ but they have a baby with some unusual heart issues. I thought Andy might think is was interesting. Hope you're having a great day!
Charlie is a rock star. He is hilarious and so smart. The awkward moments are the worst, but you always make the best stories out of them, so I personally, am really thankful for your awkward moments!
The video was hilarious and so true!
Enjoy your alone time and then call me after. I miss you!
