Before we left Lubbock we took Charlie to Lynette, Andy's barber of eight years, for his first barbershop haircut. He refused to wear the "bib" (smock) but otherwise did okay as long as he had a steady supply of dum-dums to suck on.
We stayed in Texarkana the first night of the trip and Bristol, TN/VA the second night. You may be wondering why both our Penske truck and a Uhaul are in this picture. Well, when our moving guys were almost done loading our Penske we soon realized that we didn't have enough room. Andy's dad was kind enough to rush to Uhaul and hook a trailer to my car. Driving the car with the trailer was my least favorite part of the trip, since apparantly the trailer's favorite part was fish-tailing at any opportunity.
I think there should be a special holiday in honor of whoever invented protable DVD players and these headphones. Our good friends Brook, Amanda, and Savannah helped us move across the country. I still feel guilty about it. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. When we move back to Texas we're hiring movers to do every last bit of it and we're catching a plane. Mark my words! Anyway, Savannah (age 7) and Charlie spent a lot of time together in the back seat watching their DVD players. Charlie now thinks "Hannah Tan" (guess who?) is appropriate viewing for a toddler.
On Wednesday we decided to take our pals to DC instead of unpacking. It was great! The highlight of the afternoon for Charlie was chasing the domesticated squirrels hanging out around the reflecting pool and his efforts to talk to an orange construction cone. He never got past the top step to the Lincoln Memorial because he was scared of the "big man in chair."

So, where are the pictures of Brook, Amanda and Savannah? I'm so glad they were there to help. I know having them along helped on the trip with Charlie, whom we miss terribly. Sounds like all seems to be going well and love the jeep, what a great deal!
