It is with great sadness that I inform you that I accidentally deleted the video of Charlie stuck in a folding chair. I thought I downloaded it before I erased my memory card but I guess I didn't. It was one of my favorite videos of him so I've been in mourning. I do have one other that might make you laugh, although it's not nearly as good. It's of Charlie and Andy singing "The Lord's Army." Although this was one of my favorites as a kid it kind of freaks me out given today's political climate. It's now a little too jihad-ist for me. Seriously, I'm not even joking or trying to make light. It freaks me out. Charlie loves it though so I guess we'll stick with it for now. He sure cracks me up when he sings it!
Ok, a few pictures I find to be funny/telling of where Charlie is in his life:
Look at Charlie sitting at Starbucks sipping his organic vanilla milk, eating his petite vanilla bean scone, trying to steal his mom's chai creme frappuccino, wearing his old-school gray New Balance tennis shoes and his zip-up hoodie, about to stroll out to his mom's mid-size SUV, climb into his Britax carseat and truck on over to storytime at the local library to hang out with other suburban white kids and read books with pictures of lots of other middle-class white people. You have no idea how much this kills me, but I do it anyway.
"My Daddy Lives at the Hospital so I Will Too"
The other morning Charlie had a doctor's appointment at his pediatrician's office (no, Andy is not his pediatrician -- everyone always asks that) next to the hospital. Andy had forgotten a few things at home that morning so we decided to be nice and deliver them. After showing off (read: ignoring and being shy) to the staff on the pediatric floor (shout out!) we headed back down to the car. Since the area with the main elevators was under construction we had to weave our way down to the lobby, a path that took us past the Burn ICU and into its waiting area. Unfortunately, Dora was on the TV and Charlie couldn't bring himself to pass it up. He just plopped down on the floor and made himself at home. I'm really glad no one else was around. What would I have said? "I'm really sorry that your loved one is badly burned, but what's really important here is that my TV-addicted toddler get his Dora fix." I don't think that would have been appropriate.

That is the cutest video ever!!! We miss Charlie so much:)
Oh my gosh. I love that kid! I think you need to teach him the gangster version of that song :) haha
1. I love Charlie.
2. Charlie is going to be too cultured and civilized to hang out with Carley if he keeps frequenting Starbucks. She is not that socially acceptable yet. I hope he doesn't realize it.
3. I love Charlie. :)
Ash, in response to #2, I snapped that picture in the two seconds that Charlie was in his seat. The rest of the time he was making a scene pulling on the blinds and trying to swing on the bar that spanned the front door. That's why our Starbucks trip only lasted about two minutes. I just really needed a latte! Why don't our toddlers understand these things??
I also am unsettled about the "Lord's Army" song (as well as the words to "Jesus Loves the Little Children," but that's another issue) and anytime I am teaching the kids class and we sing it, I always give a little disclaimer that being in the Lord's army does not mean that we are actually fighting with physical weapons, but that we are "armed" with the fruits of the Spirit, etc. Who knows if they are processing what I am saying but I can't help myself.
Seriously, Carolyn..."Red & yellow, black & white..." Who wrote that song, anyway? Oh, that's right. It was a white guy.
