Ok, so technically we only saw a train without riding one but the other two are valid. Last week for spring break Charlie and I flew down to Austin to visit my family for a week. Our flight out was delayed an hour and was well into bedtime by the time we boarded, but I was amazed at how perfect Charlie was. The flight was full and included no fewer than fifteen babies! My secret weapon...the portable DVD player with Baby Einstein type DVDs. God bless that thing!
It rained through Wednesday so we spent most of the time indoors, but it was a great time to just hang out and play. Charlie's cousin Landon is just two weeks older than Charlie so they were quite a pair. Landon's like a little whirlwind all over the place and Charlie just kind of chills out and plays or reads. It was so funny to see how different they are. Charlie was pretty taken with his cousin Jordyn (5 years). He just laughed at her, snuggled up next to her and tried to give her kisses. She loved it and thought Charlie was so much cooler than her brother. It was all pretty entertaining.
The weather finally cleared up on Thursday so we headed to San Antonio to visit my grandma and go to the zoo. We quickly abandoned our zoo plans when we saw the parking and the line to get in. It looked like opening day at Disney World! We went down the road to the Witte Museum instead and it was air conditioned and entertaining. It's not like Charlie knew the difference. With all the stuffed buffalo, deer, etc. he probably thought it was the zoo. He barked at every animal as is his norm.
After the museum we ate some great Mexican food, played at a beautiful park and then headed to grandma's. The kids were beat. The adults were beat as well. Most of my fatigue came from dealing with rude & inconsiderate children and parents. It was a lesson in reminding myself what to teach Charlie as he grows older, like not using the elevator unless you need it, letting others on and off before yourself, holding doors open, watching out for others on the playground, etc. I'm amazed at what parents don't teach their children.
We caught a flight out of Austin at 7:00 am yesterday and again Charlie was perfect. I couldn't ask for a better kid. He's so precious and I'm so thankful!
Anyway, it's nice to be home and back in our own beds. I love traveling but it always reminds me how much I love home!
Here are some pics from our adventures!
The ever-popular game of "Whose Fur is This?" was one of my favorite attractions at the museum.
Reading with Grandaddy.
