Huh.

Today I met a fascinating woman. Her name is Najia and she's from Afghanistan. She and her family fled the country to Pakistan in the eighties during the Russian invasion. There she opened a school for refugees that grew to educate over one thousand children. She has a law degree and taught university classes before coming to the U.S. seeking political asylum. She's been teaching at a local preschool for seven years, and beginning next Tuesday she will be Charlie's teacher. Huh. The next time I complain about the difficulties of my life just kindly tell me to shut it.

Anyway, Charlie is very excited about starting "school." He'll be going two days a week and we LOVE the program. It's associated with the hospital and is mainly for the children of physicians and staff, so it opens early (in case I need to leave Andy in charge) and is only closed two days out of the year (Thanksgiving and Christmas). Children are usually on the wait list for a year and a half, and families have been known to "save a spot" before they are even pregnant! Let's just say that we happened to call at the right time when they had openings for Charlie's age. You may be thinking, "Huh. I don't remember Amy talking about her new job." Well, I don't have one yet. I've long suspected that being a full time stay-at-homer wasn't my gift and it turns out that I'm right. Charlie is aching to be back in school for a few days a week and I'm aching to do something outside of the home.

Here's the deal -- I've applied for a part-time nonprofit position as a program coordinator for a public housing advocacy group. This is EXACTLY what I've been educated to do. My master's degree is in urban sociology and my thesis was on low-income/homeless families and housing. I haven't heard anything back so I'll follow up this week. They may have filled the position, decided I'm too new to the area, or just thrown my resume in the trash. Whatever the case, I'd appreciate any prayers and good thoughts sent upward on my behalf that I find my place here. There are a few other things I'm looking into so I'll keep you posted. It feels a little weird starting Charlie in "daycare" when I don't even have a job yet, but I just remember what my amazing momma-in-law says: You don't need a reason to have some time off other than to have some time off! Being a mom is hard work. Amen.

In other news, I think we may have found a church here. It's a great size, has great worship, and the people are very friendly. There are tons of young families and the nursery people love Charlie. They said they wish they had fifteen more just like him. Huh. I guess he saves all his "special" moments for at home. Speaking of Charlie, he work me up this morning with, "Momma...blue and yellow make green." Huh. Someone has been teaching him things behind my back again! I love when that happens.

A few more things:
1) How much do you love Michael Phelps?? I just want to squeeze his cheeks. On his face. Get your mind out of the gutter. Also, I could watch the men's 4 x 100m final all day long. Jason Lezak is a manimal. Amazing!
2) Is it me, or is our president at the Olympics partying like it's 1999? It's a little awkward.

Note from the editor: The use of certain words (sucks, crap, etc.) on this blog will no longer be permitted. This thirty-year-old mother has decided to grow up and eliminate said words from her vocabulary lest her toddler decide to repeat them. Thank you.

The President wasted no time in giving congress a hard time for taking vacation after getting back from China and before he left for another vacation to Texas. Awkward is one of many words that come to mind with 'ol W. Sorry for the vent. Melody doesn't like to talk politics. :)

I'll keep the new job in my prayers!

I LOVED watching GDub party at the Olympics. I wish I could party with him. That'd be cool.

I had Open House tonight, and a dad casually cursed in front of a bunch of kids in my room. He also laughed loudly and told me that Jakob's name on his desk looked liked "jack off" because I had written it in cursive. HMMMM...classy.

I am so glad you got in. Earlier this week, I was thinking that it wouldn't happen. YAY for you guys. I'll pray that our little buddy does well.

I am proud of you for your grown up vocabulary. You are silly.

Your dad and I loved all the information, including Charlie learning his color mixtures. Sounds like everything is falling into place and we are certain you will get the perfect job , whether it's the one you have already applied for, or another one that is meant for you. On April's comment, Poor Dear. What a way to start a school year with a neurotic father. And to Michael, you can email anytime or call and talk politics.

I am wiping tears from my eyes as I laugh hysterically at April's comment about that dad...are you KIDDING ME? Keep us updated, April, on all of your fun parent-teacher conferences with THAT guy.

Can't wait to hear about the job situation! You will be a tremendous blessing to whatever job you choose. Remember, in the midst of all of these exciting things going on with Charlie's new school, your job search, etc. that none of this is a coincidence! God is blessing you abudantly and will continue to do so! Seek Him first.
