Yesterday I got hit on by a shirtless, likely narcotically (I know that's not a word) self-medicated psychologically disturbed homeless man.
Here's how it went:
Man: I like your shoes.
Me: Thanks.
Man: Did you know they used to call Wal-Mart "Wally World"? Well, mostly the girls do.
Me: Yes, I did know that. My mom calls it that.
Man: You wait there (I was getting in my car). I'll go get my plate and I'll be right back. (We were outside of our church's soup kitchen.)
Me: (Thinking to myself) Not on your life.
Man: (Turning around on his way to get his plate) Hey, are you married?
Me: Yes
Man: You are?
Me: Yes
Man: Oh, never mind then.
Sadly, I was flattered by the whole exchange. This is when you know it's time for a makeover. So, I just sold my first old textbook on Amazon.com for $60 and am now well on my way to a color, cut & style.
At the same time that this exchange was taking place I was helping some folks into my car to give them a ride home. They were a couple who was visiting our class and they're both blind. Since they obviously can't drive I offered to pick them up for church last night also, especially since we were having a potluck. So, there we were, me holding Charlie's little hand in my right hand, balancing two trays of food in the other, Josh holding onto my left elbow and Christy holding onto him. I'm sure we looked like a circus. We made it through the parking lot and down the elevator without dropping anything or anyone. It was a miracle! Many trips through the potluck lines and 3 hours later and we all made it to our respective homes in one piece (shout out to Ash & The Walls for the help)! I concluded that maybe a lone mom (Andy was working) with a toddler wasn't the best choice to escort two blind folks through parking lots and elevators. I'm amazed that no one got hit by a car or smashed in an elevator door. Precious little Charlie just sat in his car seat playing and laughing with Josh as we drove them home. I think I've seen Jesus in my little boy more in his short eighteen months than I'll ever see in anyone else. I wish I could just laugh and play in tough, awkward moments like he does.
Moving on, Saturday night we went to the drive-in to see The Bourne Ultimatum. I love the Bourne movies and #3 was no disappointment. Charlie loves the drive-in because he gets to mess around in the front seat before the movie starts. Since I happened to have had my camera in the car I got a few pics:
Now that's a big screen!

What cute stories and pics!
There are a hundred comments I could make about yesterday, but I just have to say
1. It was a hilarious and bizarre day
2. I learned a lot
3. You make me laugh
Our precious Charlie. I can't wait to see y'all Wednesday. Yes you, Andy, Melody and Michael will get Mom hugs from me, but Charlie will be getting a week of cuddles, hugs and kissie faces. Love all of my kids!
Oh mom, Andy was really hoping for a week of "kissie faces" from you for himself! )
Amy - You are truly amazing for what you did for Josh and Christy Sunday night. I think I would've lost it half-way through. Charlie was so sweet and content eating his cookie...you have such a sweet boy!
I wish we had a drive in here! Our babysitter situation didn't work out on Friday and we were going to go see Bourne III. I heard it was awesome! I wish we lived closer to each other, that would be fun to go with you guys and take the boys. We miss you guys!
Oh man. Those are some great stories. I really like the pictures of Charlie enjoying his beverage. And I love the drive in. And the Bowmans. The end.
I am so jealous that you guys have a drive in......that is SO FUN. Also, your previous house that you just sold is SO CUTE- but what a relief to have it sold...congrats!
Girl . . . I tilted my head back and laughed out loud for several minutes at the picture of Charlie in his winter clothes getting ready to go out in the snow . . . that picture is hilarious! I'm going to be laughing about that one for days.
FYI - loved the Bourne movies too. I recently watched #1 and #2 again to gear up for #3. I wish we had a drive in movie . . . I'm jealous.
