"He's about six pounds--right on track."

On track for what?! Charlie's supposed to gain 1/2 pound per week until he's born. Let's see...five weeks left, that's an 8.5 lb baby. Oh man! On track to hurt me!
This whole baby birthing and breastfeeding this is so weird to me and I know why. It's because we've evolved so far from our original primal selves that to be put back on the same level as other animals through this experience seems so unnatural, when it is the most natural I will probably ever be in my life. Ok, so I'll be in a nice hospital room with a big fat epidural and all the other modern conveniences, but I think you know what I mean. Don't even get me started on the breastfeeding thing! How weird is that? At that point I'm on the same level as my dog (if I had one!). Freaks me out!

Anyway, I'm thinking about this because I saw my OB yesterday and it's fresh on my mind. My glucose levels are still all over the place so I'm now on a carb blocker which I take with every meal. I think it will be good. The weird thing is that I'm 35 weeks now and my doc said to come back in two weeks. Hello--I'll be 37 weeks then! I'm on two shots a day of heparin, being treated for gestational diabetes, and he hasn't bumped me to every week yet. It really doesn't matter. I've got his pager number. I think he just assumes Andy's got everything under control. Uh, Andy's a pediatrician, not an OB.

I'm starting to pack my hospital bag but I'm not sure what to include. I've got my pajamas, toiletries and stuff, 4 power bars that I'll shove down before we go to the hospital, and a massage thing that they gave us at childbirth class. I'll also take my snoogle and some CDs--Fleetwood Mac, James Taylor, & Kelly Clarkson. I hope my doc likes "Since You've Been Gone" because I'm going to put it on repeat. Then there's the paperwork, call list, books/magazines, what else? I don't really know what to include. So, for anyone reading, was there anything specific that you packed that you couldn't live without? Were there things that you took that you should have left home? Help me out here! Guys, is there anything special that I should pack for Andy?

P.S. Just a reminder...I'm supposed to have this baby right around Valentine's Day and if I don't get a big fat thing of chocolate after abstaining for this long I may have a breakdown!

Just make sure your PJs aren't white or light colored if you get my point. Worse mistake I made having Kyler. For Andy . . . The newest National Geographic should do and maybe an epidural for him also.

Wow Amy! It sounds like you have just about everything covered! I'm impressed that you even know what music you'll be listening to. You're a real planner. I honestly don't think you really need all of the stuff that the books tell you to bring. I brought it all to the hospital with Mary Alice and took most of it home, unused. There are so many things listed as "must have" items that you just don't need or are just really silly and cheesy. Since you mentioned it, if you are planning on breastfeeding, you may want to bring a tube of Lansinoh to the hospital. From my experience, that is one thing you do NOT want to be without. That and the epidural. :)

If I were you Amy, I would include a lightweight nightgown. It might be more comfortable than pj's pressing around your waist. A bedjacket is good, but do they make them anymore? Maybe something to write on as you might like to jot some of your thoughts down during your hospital stay.

Here's my two suggestions... I'm with your mom, bring a night gown. I went to Target and found a cute knee-length gown that buttons-up (good for breast-feeding). Also, I would bring houseshoes/slippers. They are perfect for walking around your room or the hospital floor. Just don't worry about it too much because there will always be people who can run to your house and pick up anything you might of forgot. Don't worry about Andy, he will be busy meeting every need of you and Charlie those first couple of days he won't have time for anything else.

Yeah, Amy...take something to write on to "jot some of your thoughts down" so that you can be more like Karen in yet another area. Back in the day, they had to write things down. Now we have these things called "video cameras" and "voice recorders". Might want to try that instead. I wish I could be there. I'd bring my ipod and be your labor and delivery DJ. Charlie would be born to only "the greatest hits from the 80's, 90's and today"! I'd also make sure that you had your favorite snacks to eat afterwards...like Almond Joys, Snickers, and cottage cheese and Cheetos. Let me just say this once...I HATE THAT I'M NOT GOING TO BE THERE!!!!!!!! Now everyone feel sorry for me.

Please don't forget the camera. And I took Kaitlyn's baby book so that visitors could sign it.
And I second Amber on the Lansinoh. You NEED that for sure. Not too much longer!!!!! I'm sad James got to see ya'll and I didn't. :(

I think you've already packed away that "something special" for Andy! We can't wait to meet him!

Chap stick, lotion, and some body splash or something to make you feel a litle fresher. I became really dry and the lotion and chap stick saved me.

Mimi...if you forget anything, I will bring it to you. That's what I'm here for! April, don't be jealous that I get to be here AND YOU DONT! Sorry...that was mean.
Anywho...I have all of Kelly's best hits on my MP3 player...so I have you taken care of.
BTW..could you bring me my chapstick? But my lips hurts real bad!

April, get a blog!

What in the world is a "bed jacket"? I think we call them robes now. JK. I think I'll leave the paper at home and bring my laptop. I'll try to get a blog post in between contractions (right!). I also think I'll leave the books & magazines at home--I'm a tv person!
All very good advice!! Thanks!

Shanta, my life is very boring. I don't have much to say unless I'm harassing my sisters. Maybe I'll start one if I ever get pregnant, "if the Good Lord wills it and the creek don't rise." And apparently I have to use my first AND last name when I post a comment from now on because someone thought one of my comments was from April Carrasco and got their panties in a wad over it. Sorry April...hope I didn't cause problems for you.

Amy, a bedjacket is a short little jacket with buttons up the front, so that instead of having to wear a robe while visitors come by and you are still in bed, you just wear the jacket for a little more cover up if your gown is too thin. I bet Sara knows what I'm talking about, don't you Sara?
